The DataJam Pasos Libres 2021 is the fourth installment of the first global technological innovation competition on modern slavery, created by Pasos Libres and IBM in 2018. This year the DataJam Pasos Libres seeks to develop solutions to improve, scale, or expand existing tech tools to combat forced labor in the supply chains. The competition comprises three days of talks, workshops, and networking sessions with global experts in Spanish and English; five free days for development with the support of mentors from diverse domains; and access to IBM technologies and the DataJam’s Participant Handbook.

What is the DataJam Pasos Libres like?

The DataJam Pasos Libres is an annual international competition in which +150 participants from all over Latin America and the world develop data-based solutions to fight modern slavery. Participating teams have access to training, mentoring, networking sessions, and IBM technologies that enhance their ability to overcome the proposed challenges. In addition, the winning teams get the opportunity to work with the event organizers to continue developing and deploy their solutions.

What tools do I need to compete?

Each participant must have a computer with the requirements (hardware and software) they consider necessary, plus Internet access. The event organizers will provide access to IBM Cloud and IBM Cognos Analytics as well as communication and collaboration tools, and the data sets for the development of the competition. Participants can collect, create and use their own data sets and any other tool or material they consider necessary.

Who can participate?

Undergraduate, graduate, technicians and professionals with knowledge in the development of technological solutions, data analysis, design, marketing, business and finance, as well as human trafficking, human rights, crime prevention, justice, care to victims, among other related area. The undergraduate students must be studying at least the year or semester that represents 60% of their career. All participants must be over 18 years old.

Are there prizes?

Of course! The team that occupies first place will obtain $4,000,000 (COP) in cash plus 1-year Platzi Expert Plans for each team member. Second and third place will receive 1-year Platzi Expert Plans for each team member. In addition, all participants will obtain a certificate that certifies their participation in the event.

How do I register?

You can register your team by completing the registration form on this website. To register, you must form an interdisciplinary work team, with a minimum of four (4) and a maximum of five (5) members. Each team must have at least one data scientist, programmer or developer.

The DataJam Pasos Libres’ organizers will accept 150 participants (between 30 and 37 teams). The teams selected to participate will be announced on Wednesday, September 3rd .

Is the registration free?

Yes. Registration is free. However, remember that places are limited. If your team is selected, their commitment will be to actively participate during the whole competition and develop an innovative solution that helps stop forced labor using the power of data.
